Used to work as a butcher in Wales. After the departure of Wendy Richard in the final "EastEnders" (1985) episode of 2006, he is the only remaining original cast member of the series. He made his first appearance in the first episode on 19th February 1985. He married dancer Beverly Sharp in Disney World, Florida, on 8 April 1998 and the couple have two children, Jessica (b. 1993) and a son (b. 1997). Was in attendance at the wedding of his "EastEnders" (1985) co-star Samantha Womack to Mark Womack (17 May 2009). Is a huge Star Trek fan and appeared on BBC2's Star Trek theme night.

Attended the prestigious Forest School, in North-East London, along with Nicola Walker and Sharat Sardana.

One of the few "EastEnders" (1985) cast members to be actually from the East End of London (born in Walthamstow).
