Ana`s father is Angel Ortiz, an ex-City Councilman in the City of Philadelphia. Ana was nominated, along with her Ugly Betty castmates for a SAG Award in the category of Outstanding Ensemble in a Comedy Series in 2007 and 2008. In the 2007 ALMA Awards, Ana was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress - Television Series, Mini-Series or Television Movie for her role as Hilda Suarez in Ugly Betty. At the 2007 Imagen Awards, she won Best Supporting Actress - Television for the show. Both awards honor Hispanic achievement. Ana initially auditioned for the role of Betty Suarez in Ugly Betty, but she thought she was too old for the role. Therefore, she was given the role of Hilda, the older sister of Betty Suarez. Ana is one of the two Philadelphians who are regulars on Ugly Betty, the other being Mark Indelicato, who plays her son Justin.

Ana is a supporter of the charity Eva`s Heroes, which assists people with developmental disabilities. Other supporters include Eva Longoria, Kyle MacLachlan and Mario Lopez.

In January 2009, Ana announced she was pregnant with her first child with husband Noah Lebenzon.

Ana made her debut on television in the year 1999 in Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman: The Movie.

Ana has a brother and a sister named Angel Omar Ortiz and Lydia Pilar Ortiz respectively.

Although Ana`s character Hilda on Ugly Betty is Mexican, Ana is Puerto Rican. Her TV sister, America Ferrera is Honduran and her TV dad Tony Plana is Cuban.

Ana married musician Noah Lebenzon on Saturday, June 9, 2007 in Puerto Rico. Some of the guests included Ana`s Ugly Betty costars America Ferrera, Mark Indelicato and Ashley Jensen.

Ana has graduated from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.

As of 2007, Ana resides in Manhattan, where Ugly Betty is shot.

Ana`s husband Noah proposed to her in August while she was doing her laundry.

Ana has said that if she was not an actress, she would work with kids. She spent many summers as a camp counselor and her mother also worked as group therapist for autistic children.
