Named his puppy Kato (after Bruce Lee's character in the television show "The Green Hornet" (1966)). While in school, Karl made ends meet by modeling and picking up campaigns from L'Oreal to Phat Farm clothing. Was offered a five-year contract role on the daytime Soap, "All My Children" (1970).
