Is a real-life military brat; father John Sloatman III is a second-generation USMC officer. Lived with Balthazar Getty Cousin of Ahmet Zappa, with whom she starred in Pump Up the Volume (1990). Her other cousins are Diva Zappa, Dweezil Zappa, and Moon Unit Zappa. Lala is also the niece of Frank Zappa. Tried out for, but did not get, the role of "Casey" in Prayer of the Rollerboys (1990); this would have been her third film with Corey Haim, who personally recommended Lala for the part. Said role ultimately went to Patricia Arquette. Cousin of Frank Zappa's children.
