Mark had brain surgery for a tumor that fortunately resulted to be benign. Following brain surgery, he suffered from a partial facial paralysis although he went on to make a full recovery. Mark studied at the Stella Adler Conservatory in Los Angeles. Benicio Del Toro was a fellow student there. Mark is of French Canadian and Italian descent but is considered an Italian-American. Mark`s father, Frank, was a construction painter and his mother, Maria, a hairstylist. Both are Italian-Americans. They later divorced. When I was doing boot camp for Windtalkers as a marine, Mark was one of my roommates at the barracks in Hawaii. The night before graduating he sneaked out of the barracks to go to the store and he bough ice cream for all of us (76!!). It`s one of the great memories I have about this guy, not only a great actor but a very nice person.
Although his movie You Can Count On Me is set in Worcester, Massachusetts, Mark has never been in that town.
